The Garrett AT Pro is one of the most prized all-around metal detectors on the market. Operating at 15kHz, the Garret AT Pro is designed to fit a wide variety of targets at excellent depth. The “Pro Mode” on the Garrett AT Pro gives valuable information about targets, helping users avoid bottle caps, iron, and dig less trash in general.
For one of the best-priced metal detectors on the market, the Garrett AT Pro is a ring magnet! Whether you're hunting saltwater beaches or heavy iron-laden sites, the Garret AT Pro offers underwater usage up to 10 feet, so if you’re ready to get your feet wet, go out there and find some beach jewelry!
Garrett AT Pro Settings
The Garrett AT Pro offers 6 modes:
Standard Mode Reports tones as single easy-to-hear clear binary tones, for a cleaner, easier detecting. While operating in standard mode you can access Zero, Coins, or Custom modes.
Pro Mode Offers more audio information about a target such as size, depth, and conductivity. Pro mode also uses a faster recovery speed for heavy iron-laden sites. The Tone Roll that is only available when in Pro Mode offers more information feedback by reporting multiple tones from a single object, hence a tone ‘roll’ is heard. The tone roll is especially helpful in identifying aluminum and bottle caps.
The Garrett AT Pro features a wide discrimination range if you choose to notch out any target ID’s that report as trash, with optional iron audio.
Garrett AT Pro Accessories
The Garrett AT Pro battery life Is 20-40 hours depending on the battery type and quality. Rechargeable batteries are available aftermarket.
Other Garrett AT Pro aftermarket accessories include waterproof headphones, various-sized coils, and screen and coil covers.
Garret AT Pro TIps and Tricks
Saltwater beach hunting with the Garrett AT Pro can be tricky. You will need to manually ground balance your detector and drop the ground balance down by a few numbers. Saltwater beaches usually have a ground balance between 0 and 20. If it’s still chatty, reduce the sensitivity a couple of notches listen for the consistent prominent sounds and ignore the non-repeatable blips and chirps.
If you’re hunting in the highly mineralized ground with hot rocks, it is important to reduce the iron discrimination and ensure that you have properly ground balanced so good signals are not lost. Sometimes good signals will show a lower target ID in these types of settings.
If you are experiencing AT Pro noise and chatter, make sure the detector cable is properly wrapped around the stem (taught but not too tight). Do a noise cancel and turn your cell phone on airplane mode or turn it off. Check to see where EMI interference could be coming from (other detectors etc.) and try to distance yourself or turn your sensitivity down a bit.
Bouncy target ID’s can indicate iron, trash, or a deep conductive target. Try to listen and learn the nuances of the tones, do a 360 turn as you sweep over the target to listen to it from all angles, then dig to teach yourself what that signal was.
